Get rid of your computers the "green" way.

Posted by cuteness | Posted in Useful miscellaneous information | Posted on 19-06-2008

Getting rid of obsolete computers has been a big problem for companies. Since the EU directive which took effect since February, 2003, computer equipments must be disposed in a proper way and not only by just throwing them out. The reason is, without the proper way of destructing the equipments, it can be a hazard to the environment.

Besides the environmental hazard that it can cause, without the knowledge and proper tools off erasing data on the hard drives, information and identity theft is also a risk. Since erasing the data from the hard disc does not mean that the data can not be retrieved back afterwards using hard drive forensic analysis techniques. This is a very high risk for company or organizations that deal with highly confidential data. Like Banks for example.

With these problems looming over these companies that need to rid of their old computing systems, companies such as EFC-enviro friendly computing ltd is a saviour. As they say, for many companies, it is not easy being green, that is why EFC is there to simplify it for them.

Not only this U.K based company offers services to completely clear off data from hard disc using special softwares that ensure no identity theft will occur, they also offer services to destroy hard drives or cd using methods like shredding and smelting. Once this is done, a certificate will issue to the clients as proof that the hard disc and cds have been thoroughly destroyed.

Besides helping with computers and hard disc destruction the environmentally friendly, green way, they also provide other services. Also relating to computers of course. They sell refurbished computers and notebooks, supplier of certified environmentally friendly notebooks from Fujitsu-Siemens, provide computer and notebook repair services, etc.

Uglydolls – ugly in a cute way.

Posted by cuteness | Posted in Collectibles, Cute creative gift ideas, Dolls | Posted on 19-06-2008

It has been sometime now since I last post about collectible dolls. It is about time I write one now. Uglydolls. I would say, ugly in a cute way. If there are such things that look ugly and cute at the same time, Uglydolls are those things. To be honest, I don’t see what is so ugly about them. But hey, I’m not the creator.

If you are into doodolls , then you would love these plush dolls as well.

Pic from blueluxe.com.

Ugly dolls comes with their own biographies, personalities, dislikes and dislikes. I think people are into these kinds of things. People like things with attitude. :p

Here’s a little bit about the characters which I took from blueluxe.com:

Wage, is an orange creature that wears an apron and works at the local Super Mart. He is a hard worker and just wants to please his customers.

Babo is blue with short, skinny arms and two huge front teeth. Although Babo is not very smart, he is loyal. When something scary happens, he will send a greeting card from wherever it is he runs away to.

Jeero, a green little guy who looks pretty “normal” compared to the rest, is a tad bit spacey. He doesn’t know how to answer any questions and likes to just hang out, eat snacks, and exercise.

Tray, the only girl of the group, is “the brain.” It’s not that she’s particularly intelligent, but she has three brains. She is also the hungriest of the Ugly Dolls, always in desperate need of blueberry pie.

Ice-Bat lives in an ice-box inside an ice cave and has extra pointy ears so he can hear the ice cream truck coming from miles away.

Target is the oldest of the Ugly Dolls, which is why he has extra legs and hair. He bails the others out of trouble, but gets them into more sophisticated kinds of mischief.

Wedgehead, who is bright blue with a flat head, sees the world just as you do, but only when he balances on his head. Wedgehead is on a mission to prove that humans really do exist.

OX is lime green, with long droopy ears and an X for a left eye. He is best friends with Wedgehead and is great at magic. He loves turning your stuff into his, but Wedgehead calls it stealing.

Cinko, with three eyes and flipper-like paws, is the only Ugly Doll from the deep. The problem is that he is afraid of water.

Ox caught my eye, I like him the best of all. He also reminds me of my 2 year old daughter, since she likes to call other peoples’ stuffs hers. :P

In my opinion, if you are looking for something to start collecting on, you should perhaps consider these not so ugly dolls.

Custom made number plates.

Posted by cuteness | Posted in Cute creative gift ideas | Posted on 18-06-2008

Customizing things is always fun and here is another thing that you can customize or personalize if you are interested – number plates. Either it is for your car, or your bike, show number plates, or just a picture plate for the fun of having one as a decoration or gift, you can get 4plates to get it made for you.

Visit their website at 4plates.co.uk and choose how you would like your plates to look like. There are legal facts regarding number plates that you might want to read about on the website as well. So better read that before you go on making a customized car or bike plate for yourself. Though with the car and bike number plates, it is a bit limited on how far your creativity can go, but with other novelty, fun plates, you can create just any how you would want it to look like.

For me, I do not have a car, but if I were to have one made, most probably I would have something with our names on it to put on our front door. Since we live in an apartment building, most of the times, the postman would just leave parcels on top of our mail box instead of handing it to me directly. We do not have anything to indicate which door is ours, that is why.

Anyway, I fiddled with the customizing application on the website to see how I can create the plates. Simple enough. Here are a couple simple samples I have created. You can be more creative than this.

They will add up the cost every time you add something on the plate, so you will see the price immediately right at the bottom left hand corner of the application. You can discard or choose to order the plate when you are done.

These plates can make a nice, cute, creative gift as well. It all depends on what you create on it. Those who receive it would love it!

Real life Teddy Bear and Garfield.

Received pictures through email. Just want to share it here. :) This one looks like a teddy bear at a glance. I assume it is a puppy. Though it looks like a fox as well. What ever it is, it is so darn cute! The owner must be very proud of it. :D

Click the above image for a bigger view. First time looking at the kitty, it reminds me of Garfield! I just have a feeling that Garfield might have looked like this in real life as a kitten. :)
